Today it has been reported that at least 32 people have been killed and over 150 injured in Pakistan due to a week of violent storms following an intense heatwave. The storms, which included heavy rains, strong winds, and hailstorms, struck northern and central regions, particularly affecting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
In Punjab, at least 20 deaths were reported on May 24 and 25, with fatalities caused by collapsing walls, roofs, falling trees, and dislodged solar panels. Five additional deaths, including a child, occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday, May 29.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that stormy weather would persist until Saturday 31 May following an unusually warm April and a dry winter, with temperatures reaching up to 50°C in May, at least 8°C above normal.
